1926-2008

Wendell H. Starkey, 81, of rural Zionsville, died July 1, 2008. He was born Aug. 10, 1926, in Indianapolis to the late Malcom and Ruby Harmon Starkey. He was also preceded is death by his loving wife of 50 years, Rosemary (Hull) Starkey and his brother, Donald Starkey.

Wendell was a self-employed grave digger, having dug more than 3,000 graves by hand. He was a 30-year member of Celestial Masonic Lodge No. 525 in Whitestown, a lifetime member of the Salem United Methodist Church, and of the Eagles Lodge in Lebanon.

Survivors include his sons, Mark, Marvin (wife Joyce), and Marshall (wife Starr); five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Monday July 7, 2008, at the Salem United Methodist Church in Zionsville.
