Rose Marie (Lovett) Smith of New Berlin, Wisc., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 10, 2013, at the age of 80. She was the cherished wife of Stanton W. Smith, for 61 years and loving mother of Laura Lee (Mark) Langer, Roger A. (Mary Beth) Smith, and Joel H. (Linda) Smith. She was the proud grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of five and loved by many other relatives and friends.
Rose was born on a farm near Zionsville to Delbert and Edna (Harvey) Lovett. Rose attended Zionsville Elementary School, graduated from Zionsville High School and attended Indiana University. Rose married Stanton W. Smith (whom she met in second grade) at the Zionsville Methodist Church.
While Stanton was in the U.S. Navy they lived in New York and Virginia. They later moved to Wisconsin in 1959 and settled in New Berlin in 1962. Rose retired from the New Berlin Police Department as an administrative secretary after 25 years of service. She loved researching family history and was a voracious reader of historical novels. She was patient, selfless and kind. Rose was an avid gardener and had a way of making everything she touched bloom into beauty.
A gathering will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Kraus Funeral Home, 12401 W. National Ave., New Berlin, Wisc. A celebration of Rose’s life will follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rose’s name may be sent to Calvary United Methodist Church (3177 S. 107th St., West Allis, Wisc. 53227).
