Joe T. Alonso

Joe T. Alonso, (born Jose Antonio), 87, Zionsville, passed away on June 17, 2014, at the Hearth at Tudor Gardens.

He was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Terre Haute to Celestino and Auralia Alonso. A 1945 graduate of Horace Mann High School in Gary, veteran of the United States Army Air Force and graduate of Gary Business College, he practiced public accounting in northwest Indiana for 40 years prior to retirement, along with operating Omni Software Systems, pioneering the path to accounting software.

He served as president of the National Computer Accountants Association and was active in many civic, church and social organizations in northwest Indiana and Zionsville.

Joe and his wife, Mary, raised their family in Hobart. After retiring, they spent their winters in Mesa, Arizona, before moving to Zionsville.

Joe's involvement in volunteer work in Mesa would consist of helping the Mesa Police Department and performing tax filing for seniors. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting, traveling, woodworking and spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed.

Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Clay Alonso; sister, Mag Esposito of Portage; his four children, Robert (Deborah) Alonso of Zionsville, Brian (Laura) Alonso of Bainbridge Island, Washington, Jane (Jim) Myers of Angola, and Toni (Mark) Street of Santa Rosa, California; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the many friends and caregivers at Senior Home Companions: Gean, James, Monica, Lovada, Mable and Fatou.

Final arrangements have been entrusted to Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Mortuary with services to be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent Hospice of Indianapolis and Alzheimer's Association.
