Judy Hill Nelson

Judy Hill Nelson, 75, of Indianapolis, passed peacefully into heaven at 9 p.m. July 4, 2014, just as the fireworks she loved to watch from a distance were starting to go off.

Judy was born on Jan. 23, 1939, to Arthur and Lois Hill, in Terre Haute. She taught fourth grade at Darlington Elementary and special-needs students at Pleasant Hill Elementary. Before starting her career as an early-childhood director, she opened a daycare. She was an early-childhood director at the Jewish Community Center Association in Indianapolis for five years, two years at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and one year at KinderCare. Judy was also an elementary career education consultant for the state of Indiana for four years.

She and her husband fostered many children in Crawfordsville while he worked as executive director of the Montgomery County Youth Services Bureau. Judy was a charter member of Zionsville Presbyterian Church and was its first clerk of session, as well as church educator at Wabash Avenue Presbyterian Chruch in Crawfordsville for several years.

She will be missed by her family and many others.

Judy is survived by husband, Ed; daughters, Ingrid, Julie, Alisa and Ericka; three wonderful sons-in-law; 10 of the very best grandchildren God had available; and sister, Jill Stoll.

She was preceded to heaven by her parents.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Zionsville Presbyterian Church, 116th Street and U.S. 421.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Vincent Hospice Center or to children's programs at Zionsville Presbyterian Church.
