Rose M. Pennington
Rose Marie Stallsmith Pennington, 73, of Indianapolis, passed away May 2, 2014.
She was born July 6, 1940, in Hartford City, to Edgar and Louvia Stimax Stallsmith, and spent her childhood growing up in Van Buren.
Rose Marie married Don Pennington on Jan. 23, 1960. In addition to her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother, she worked at Eagle Elementary School, Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill., and Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill.
After returning to the Indianapolis area in 1991, she worked as an active volunteer and humble supporter of numerous organizations including the Warren Tree Fest, Warren Arts & Education Foundation, the Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra and the Marion County Fair. Rose Marie was the 2013 recipient of the May Wright Sewall Leadership Award, an honor bestowed upon her by the Propylaeum Educational Foundation of Indianapolis for her outstanding dedication to volunteerism in education and arts.
Rose Marie is survived by her loving husband, Don; children, Donna Ryan, Diane Schultz (John), and Dana Nelson (Jeff); grandchildren, Megan, Hannah and Brody Ryan, Brittney, Grant and Maria Schultz, Cameron and Alaina Nelson; great-grandson, Adler; sister, Neta June O'Brien (Paul); brother, Kenneth Stallsmith; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Stallsmith.
Visitation was Tuesday, May 6, at Shirley Brother Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis.
A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. at the Van Buren cemetery.
