John “Jack” D. Millis of Indianapolis

John “Jack” D. Millis, 84, of Indianapolis, died July 8, 2012.

He was born to the late Howard E. and Hazel E. (Flake) Millis in Miami, Fla. on Jan. 26, 1928. After graduating from Broad Ripple High School, Jack honorably served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Mary A. Kouns, his wife of nearly 59 years, on Oct. 17, 1953.

Jack was employed by American United Life for 20 years, before joining Citizens Gas, where he worked for 23 years. After “retiring,” Jack drove a shuttle for eight years at Robin Run, and then performed similar duties at Crestwood Village North for 12 years. He was dedicated to helping others, and made life easier for those with whom he worked. Spending time with his wife and their sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him great happiness.

Jack was a 50-year member of Broad Ripple Lodge No. 643 and a long-time member of Crooked Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons David B. (Amy) Millis and Douglas A. (Tonya) Millis; grandsons Jacob, Justin and Jeremy Millis and Devin Maddox, and nine great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Bruckman.

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, at Flanner and Buchanan Zionsville. Services will be at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens.
