Gerald Munson Jr.

Zionsville — Gerald Walter “Jerry” Munson Jr., of Zionsville, died May 6, 2013, of complications from frontal lobe dementia.

He was born Jan. 20, 1940, in Pittsburgh, Penn., to Gerald Walter Munson and Sarah Golden Munson. He grew up in Jamestown, N.Y., and Dayton, Ohio, where he graduated from Oakwood High School. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, and then served in the United States Army.

Mr. Munson had a long, distinguished career with Simon Property Group, where he held leadership positions in the company’s leasing department as the company grew to become one of the nation’s largest developers. He was a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and a C.P.M.

He was a devoted member of St. Francis In-the-Fields Episcopal Church in Zionsville, where he was senior warden of the vestry, lay minister, and chairman of the capital fund campaign. He also was a member of Traders Point Hunt.

Mr. Munson is survived by his wife, Barbara Burns Munson of Zionsville; his children, Nels Edward Munson and Lillian Burns Munson, both of Zionsville; Gerald W. Munson III of Indianapolis; Julia Marie (Stephen) Griffin of Glendale, Ariz.; and Peter Jeffrey (Lisa) Munson of Carmel; and grandchildren, Shane Moore; Jake Hansen, Grace and Kristen Griffin, and Carly, Christian, Zach and Mary Munson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marianne Munson.

The funeral was at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at St. Francis, with calling from 10 a.m. until time of service. A reception followed the service.
