Brett Leigh Faulkner

Zionsville — Brett Leigh Faulkner, 53, of Zionsville, died March 21, 2013, in Minneapolis, Minn.

Born Sept. 26, 1959, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, he was the son of Cloyse Clay Faulkner Jr. (deceased) and Joan Lorraine Petsch Faulkner. He graduated from Zionsville Community High School in 1977 and was an alumnus of Embry Riddle Aeronautical University with a Bachelor of Science degree in professional aeronautics. He was past master councilor of Zion Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Zionsville; a member of Kedron Masonic Lodge, Hendersonville, N.C.; and a 25-year member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis.

Brett had a distinguished career in aviation and retired with more than 30 years of service in the Federal Aviation Administration. He had a lifelong passion for flight, friends and family. During his aviation career, he served as an air traffic controller in many locations, including Chicago Tracon, and as operations manager at Indianapolis Center. Brett’s career culminated in national responsibility for air safety at the Washington, D.C., headquarters. He earned pilot ratings in many aircraft types including qualification as an airline transport pilot and Chief Flight School Instructor Certification. He was a beloved leader, co-worker and friend to all those with whom he worked.

Besides his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kurt Faulkner.

He is survived by a brother, Kevin (Kathy) Faulkner, and his beloved partner, Elaine Buckner. He is also survived by nephews, Brandon (Morgan) Faulkner and Thomas (Nicole) Faulkner; and by nieces, Megan Faulkner and Leah Faulkner; and sister-in-law, Janet Faulkner.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Flanner and Buchanan-Zionsville. An additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, preceding a memorial service at Flanner and Buchanan. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
