— My youngest just realized that she likes French fries.
It took seven years for her to reach this conclusion, and I couldn’t be happier. I have never really met a potato I didn’t like, so her aversion to all things tater has been a bit of a mystery to me.
When I was a very little girl, my mom used to take my siblings and I to the dinette in the S.S. Kresge store in Speedway where she ordered mashed potatoes “for the baby,” which was me. That portion of the order never varied and became a family joke. To hear mom tell it, she had to order them that way because the dinette wouldn’t serve a side of mashed potatoes to an adult. I am glad mom stood up to the ridicule of my siblings for my culinary delight.
