---- — I went to Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari last week and have been thinking about bathing suits ever since. I think most of my current obsession has something to do with the fact that I do not own a bathing suit that fits me well or that I like, and I just spent an entire day in public tugging at an ill-fitting suit.
While I do not enjoy the constant tugging and adjusting, I find it necessary to keep everything covered that should be covered. I found myself wishing that there were more people like me last week. I also found myself wishing I had a comfortable bathing suit.
My mom had what I believe was a comfortable suit. I don’t ever remember her tugging at it, and she wore the darn thing for the better part of a decade. The suit in question was a two-piece suit with dark blue shorts and a light blue tank top with dark blue trim.
I remember the first time I saw my mother in that suit. I thought she looked beautiful. In a way that only a small person could get away with, I exclaimed, “Oh, Momma! You look like a beautiful blue whale!”
Rather than get upset with me for calling her a whale, my mom took my comment for the compliment it was and thereafter referred to her suit as her blue whale suit. She even made up a little song about doing the blue whale bounce that she would sing while she carried me and bounced our way around the pool.
