Hey, buddy, can you lend me a ten(or)?
The 41st season has kicked off at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre with Ken Ludwig's "Lend Me a Tenor." This Tony Award-winning farce is set in 1934 Cleveland, where world-famous tenor Tito Merelli is slated to perform "Otello."
Due to a series of misunderstandings, Tito appears unable to perform, so the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera dresses up his assistant, Max, to pretend to be Tito and save the show.
"Lend Me a Tenor" features David Schmittou as Max, who returns to B&B after playing Captain Von Trapp in "The Sound of Music." I was a little disappointed he wouldn't be singing this time, because his voice in "The Sound of Music" made me weak in the knees, but it turns out he has more to offer than a velvety voice. He also has a knack for physical comedy.
