The joy my youngest felt last week as each snow day was called left me longing for that time in my life when snow was an awesome treat. Then I remembered that it wasn't all fun and giggles.
One of my least favorite things about playing in the snow as a kid was getting ready. Maybe it was just us, but in my family, before you could go out in the snow, you had to put two socks and a bread bag on each foot. I hated the way those bread bags smelled and felt. Mom secured them with rubber bands. I am thankful I had skinny little bird legs or that might have hurt.
My children are the beneficiaries of progress and never had to endure the bread bag torture because stores actually sell waterproof boots for children now. My babies have no idea how good they have it.
