---- — "Father of the Bride" just opened at Beef & Boards Dinner Theatre starring Jeff Stockberger as Stanley Banks and Lisa Ermel as his daughter and bride to be, Kay. This production was a step away from the musicals that B&B usually stages, and I have to admit it wasn’t one of my favorites. I was in the minority, though. The majority of the audience members seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves and laughed at pretty regular intervals. In case you haven’t seen either the black and white or Steve Martin versions of "Father of the Bride," it is the story of a dad who basically hinges on hysterics throughout the planning phase of his daughter’s wedding. Not only is he losing his baby girl, but the costs continue to rise as the guest list grows, and he is powerless to do anything but write checks. The B&B cast was rounded out by Kristin Lennox as Mrs. Banks, Joseph Mervis as little brother Tommy and Ben Tebbe as the groom. Also on the playbill were Deb Wims as Ms. Bellamy, the secretary who tries to whittle down and organize the guest list; Ivory McKay as the caterer, Mr. Massoula; and Sandra Belles as his assistant, Butch.
