Students raise $6,700 for ACS
Zionsville Community High School held its first ever tailgate to benefit Relay For Life Zionsville.
The tailgate, which was held Friday, Sept. 14, raised more than $6,700 for the American Cancer Society.
The top fundraising team was Coach Moore’s Boys Tennis Team. The following groups participated in the event: boys tennis, boys lacrosse, boys baseball, Key Club, Student Council, National Honor Society, Cheers from Emily, seniors team, boys basketball and boys soccer.
The money raised during the event will be applied to the Relay for Life Zionsville’s fundraising efforts to ensure that the money represents the Zionsville community.
ZCHS students Jakob Fisher, Allison Gruninger, Aaron Nichols, Claire Poindexter, Anne Poindexter, Kyle Langford, Katie Pullen, Jaclyn Pullen, Katie Medaris and Ashley Medaris helped plan the event. ZCHS parents Angie Leary, Robin Miiller and Lori Nichols also helped plan.
The Relay For Life of Zionsville will be held June 14 and 15 at Lion’s Park.

Seniors commended in National Merit contest
The following seniors were commended by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation for their scores on the PSAT test that they took as juniors.
They are among the 34,000 students across the nation recognized for their academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2013 competition for National Merit Scholarship Awards, these commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2013 competition by taking the PSAT: Cole Anderson, Syed Ather, Katherine Bays, Gregory Berglund, Nichole Bruce, Kelsey Byrum, Hannah Biggs, Atticus Coscia, Luke Crenshaw, Alexander Duckworth, Kristen Duffey, Felipe Gallo, Hailey Gibson, Allison Gruninger, Carolyn Haythorn, Mason Herhusky, Jennifer Hoops, Sara Jacobson, Nicholas Mates, Katelyn McCarthy, Andrew Parker, Samuel Pinegar, MacKenzie Sinclair, Sarah Thompson, Audrey Todd and Sara Zaheer.
