Christ Church welcomes Highsmith as new preschool ministry director

— Laurie Highsmith has been selected as the new preschool director at the Early Childhood Ministry at Christ Church – The Lutheran Church of Zionsville.

Highsmith earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and early childhood education from the University of Illinois with an emphasis in grades kindergarten through third.

She has had many years of experience teaching preschool and also kindergarten through second grade in public and faith based programs. She has started and directed for several years a preschool ministry that served inner-city children and their families. Highsmith has expertise in maintaining current voluntary, state-regulated registered ministry and Level 2, paths to quality ratings. The standards, developed by child development and family studies experts at Purdue University, help parents identify preschools that have met health, safety and educational requirements that ensure a positive and growing learning environment for children.

Highsmith has a strong spiritual life and involvement at her home church, Second Presbyterian in Indianapolis. She has a passion for faith-based missions and reaching out to children, families and the community so that they know the love of God. She brings a nurturing spirit to all, seeing herself as a mentor and team player with the teachers and school families.  She has led parenting seminars and worked with many volunteers to support initiatives.
