— A Zionsville resident has landed one of the leading roles in an upcoming performance of The Nutcracker.

Zionsville resident Kalyn Sankey will be performing one of the lead roles as the Sugar Plum Fairy. Sankey is a senior at Zionsville Community High School and will be graduating in June with an honors diploma.

Sankey began studying dance at age three, has been a member of The Central Indiana Dance Ensemble since 2004 as well as a principal dancer with the company since 2009. She has performed in many of CIDE’s productions, including The Nutcracker (first role as a Gingersnap in CIDE’s first Nutcracker production), Cinderella, Peter Pan, Coppélia, Alice in Wonderland and The Sleeping Beauty.

Sankey plans to continue dance as a major at the collegiate level along fulfilling all of the prerequisites for a doctorate in physical therapy.

The show, put on by CIDE, a not-for-profit organization committed to bringing the art of dance to the central Indiana community and a resident company of The Center for the Performing Arts, will perform its 14th annual Nutcracker production during the weekend of Dec. 7, at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center.

 Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
