Students in Zionsville Middle School teacher Monica Plantan’s class count their coins for Change for Children.
Zionsville Middle School completed two collection drives sponsored by the Parent-Teacher Organization to benefit local families in need. First, students participated in Food for Thought, the school's annual food drive to collect easy to prepare breakfast, lunch and snack items for students to have during school breaks. Last week, the classes finished Change for Children where students participated in Penny Wars in their classes to see which class in each grade level could collect the most. Dan Myers’ class won in fifth grade, Monica Plantan’s class in sixth grade, Catherine Hartwig’s class in seventh grade and Derek Grimm’s class won for eighth grade. The four classes received homemade treats in their classes. Students and staff collected more than $6,000 during Change for Children, which served more than 38 different families in some way during the holiday season.
