Eagles finish ninth at Flash Rock Invite
by Will Willems/Times Sentinel
CARMEL— The Eagles finished ninth in the green division of the Flash Rock Invitational Saturday, Sept. 20, behind an 11th place finish from Maria McGraw.
McGraw’s time of 19:37 was her best of the season.
“Maria continues to chip away at her [personal record],” Zionsville head coach Doug Showley said. “If she keeps it up she can make some noise in the post-season.”
Finishing second for the Eagle’s was Hayley Motter who finished in 79th, two spots ahead of teammate Megan Gast.
Motter ran a 21:52 while Gast ran a personal best 21:54 for the 5k course.
“Megan continues to impress,” Showley said. “She has persistent shoulder pain, yet she dropped another 36 seconds off of her season best.”
Calesse Cardosi also finished with her season best time of 21:58. That time was good enough for 85th place. Caitlu Alvar also cracked the top-100 as the final scoring Eagle, coming in 90th place with a time of 22:15.
Another runner that impressed Showley was Molly Maher. She has been out with injuries most of the season, but is coming back strong. She finished eighth on the team with a time of 22:48.
“Molly is coming back into form, she dropped another 54 seconds off of her season best,” Showley said. “She continues to be persistent and will be in PR form very soon.”
The junior varsity also finished in ninth place.
Arielle Coy led the JV effort with a 68th place finish in a time of 23:49, just edging out teammate Mariliz Leonard.
“She dropped nearly two minutes off of her PR,” Showley said of Coy. “When she is pain free, she is quite the runner.”
Lindsey Grammas (71th, 23:55), Kelly McCarthy (77th, 24:01) and Mary Neel (115th, 25:02 PR) rounded out the scoring five of JV runners.
The next meet for the girls cross country team is this Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Southport Invitational.
