— The Zionsville girls golf team didn’t have high expectations coming into Friday, Sept. 14’s, Ben Davis Sectionals.
And that might have been the best thing for it.
The No. 12 Eagles shot a 319 to top No. 5 Carmel by six shots and win the sectional title for the second time in three seasons.
“With the postseason, the goal of each week is to just get out,” Zionsville head coach Jeff Anderson said. “We are going to approach next week the same way we approached this week – we aren’t going in there expecting to be regional champions. But we are going to play loose, have fun with the whole thing and enjoy the ride.”
Elizabeth Schuler led the way for the Eagles with a 76.
She came out firing from the opening tee, recording three birdies in the first eight holes. She double bogeyed the ninth, but still shot a 34 on the front to set herself up in good position.
“She was our catalyst today, it was great,” Anderson said. “I couldn’t be more proud of her.
