With seven starters returning, plus the addition of U-18 national pool team player, the expectations are among the highest they have been for the Zionsville Lady Eagles soccer team. The Eagles are ranked third in the state by Student Sports/Elite Soccer Report and seventh in the nation for girls soccer teams playing in the fall.
"The expectations are very high and I think everyone understands that," Zionsville head coach Ramon Aguillon said. "We have been ranked highly in the pre-season and that is a nice accomplishment to have, even if it doesn't dictate success in the future. But, I think it something that it is nice to be recognize. The girls know that the group we have is pretty special and to have the opportunity to win a second-straight sectional is pretty special. But anything can happen, our sectional is really tough, but if we can survive that I like our chances moving forward."
The Eagles started practice Monday, Aug. 5 and had a week of tryouts. Aguillon said that he likes what he has seen from the Eagles through the first few days of practice.
"I think it has been really good," Aguillon said. "The girls have been working really hard. We have a really good group. We have 14 returning players from last season and have some nice additions. The team is shaping up nicely and the talent level is really high which is really nice to see as a coach."
