---- — It was a tough week for the Zionsville Lady Eagles basketball team.
After losing to Class 3A No. 8 Western Boone on Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Eagles had to travel to Class 4A No. 7 Westfield on Saturday, Dec. 14. Although the Eagles ultimately lost 62-46, head coach Andy Maguire liked the improvement he saw from his team.
"I thought we competed really well," Maguire said. "I give our kids credit, against Western Boone we really struggled. They came in really focused, we had a really good practice Wednesday, probably one of the hardest practices we have all year. Everything we worked on this week, they really took to heart and competed, I was really proud of them."
Westfield jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the opening minutes, before the Eagles came storming back.
The Eagles closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 13-9 lead after a quarter.
The middle two quarters, and the second in particular, hurt the Eagles.
Zionsville shot 2-of-9 from the field and turned it over six times in the second period. Westfield out-scored the visitors 20-4 in the quarter and led by 12 at the half.
