First year Brownsburg coach Steve Lynch was known as a defensive-minded coach the last few seasons at Mount Vernon, leading his team to a 24-2 record and regional title last season while holding opponents to 42 points per game.
Friday, Dec. 13, night at Zionsville got a look at what that defense can do, as the Bulldogs handed the Eagles a 42-39 defeat in the first Hoosier Crossroads Conference game of the season for Zionsville.
"We had 11 turnovers and that is probably half of our possession in the first half," Zionsville coach Shaun Busick said of Brownsburg's effort, which hassled Zionsville all night long. "They are quick at every position. They do a good job of shading screens and doing what they need to do."
That defense was on display early, as Zionsville led the game just once at 2-0 when Derrik Smits scored on a nice post move just over a minute into the game. Brownsburg responded with a 10-0 run to take the lead for good.
Brownsburg would lead 12-5 after one quarter and 19-14 at halftime thanks to that defense.
