---- — The Zionsville wrestling team wasn't able to accomplish their goal of winning a sectional championship, Saturday, Feb. 1, but the day was still fairly successful for the squad.

Zionsville placed second in the 11-team sectional with 172 points, 28.5 behind champion Carmel.

"We struggled a little bit in our middle weights and with our lower weights it was a little tougher, but our bigger guys have been carrying us all year (and they did again)," Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. "To have the last three champions was pretty exciting. It was a good way to finish. We were in fourth place starting the final round and fought all the way back to second, so I was pretty happy."

The Eagles had three champions on the day, which tied Carmel and Hamilton Southeastern for the most in the sectional.

The first champion came at 195 pounds with Jacob Aven.

Aven pinned Fishers' Anthony Baker and Lebanon's Erik Hart to reach the finals.

In the final, he topped Sam Hipple of Carmel 11-5.

"Jacob has been wrestling really well and I think he can only get better," Brennan said. "He three-peated as a sectional champ and it has been a long time since we have had that. Jacob really looked good on his feet. There was some concern by some people out there about whether he could handle 195, but has proven he can compete. He has one loss, and I think if we face that kid again we can get him. He is really wrestling well right now."
