---- — Facing Class 3A No. 7 Benton Central in the championship game of the Zionsville Girls Holiday Tournament Monday, Dec. 30, the Eagles gave perhaps their best performance in several seasons.

Even though the Bison went on to a 62-55 victory, Zionsville coach Any Maguire was very pleased at the level his team performed.

"It was fun tonight," Maguire said. "From start to finish we competed every second tonight. When you're subbing offense for defense as a coach that is fun. When we changed our defense they made a good adjustment. I thought every kid played to their abilities tonight and that has been a rare thing the past few years here."

The Eagles (5-7) got off to a very strong start by hitting their first three shots from the field to lead 8-2 after a little more than two minutes. Grace Maguire and Elizabeth Schuler each hit three-pointers as Zionsville consistently broke down the Benton Central press.

"In past years that press would have really bogged us down and made us nervous," Maguire said. "Tonight we attacked it and were able to make some great passes out of traps and made the extra pass. We did a lot of really good things tonight."

A key substitution by the Bison (12-1) allowed them to pull in front as freshman Madison Tolen came off the bench with her team down 8-2 and proceeded to score 16 of the next 26 points in the first half.

She connected four times from three-point land as the Bison led 18-16 after one quarter and pulled in front 28-20 thanks to a 10-0 run midway through the second quarter.
