The Zionsville golf team has high expectations heading into the 2013 season, with a No. 7 preseason ranking and the top-ranked golfer in the state in Adam Wood.
Head coach Steve Simmons has everyone back from a 16th-place state finish last year and they are looking to improve on that finish.
“Last year, to be honest, the guys were a little disappointed with the finish,” Simmons said. “They have gotten refocused and are ready to go. The expectations are the same as they have been: Survive and advance in the postseason and get to state.”
The Eagles haven’t had the most ideal spring so far, but have made the most of the practice time they have had as they look to start the season Saturday, April 6.
“We have made the best of it. The guys are ready to go,” Simmons said.
Junior Adam Wood will lead the team again this season. The Duke commit had an excellent summer and fall on the junior circuit and has moved up to No. 4 in the American Junior Golf Association rankings and 14th in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
He won the Polo Junior Golf Classic and the Western Junior. He also placed third in the Junior PGA Championship.
