Indianapolis — The fourth-ranked Zionsville girls golf team made history Saturday, Sept. 28, at Smock Golf Course in Indianapolis.

The Eagles shot a 309, the best the school has ever shot at Smock by 31 shots, and won the Roncalli Regional championship by two shots over second-ranked Carmel. The win advanced Zionsville to the state finals for the fourth-straight season.

“It was a fun, fun day,” Zionsville head coach Jeff Anderson said. “They had high energy from the moment they stepped off the bus. This was something they were looking forward to, and to have Lucy (Stevens) come in as the regional champ and Elizabeth (Schuler) come in second — it was just a great effort on the whole team’s part. I couldn’t be more proud of these kids.”

For the second-straight week, Stevens won a post-season event. She shot an even-par 72 on Saturday, one shot ahead of Schuler.

Maria Impicciche shot an 81, Siena Cornacchini shot an 83 and Morgan Reid shot an 84 for Zionsville.

All five girls placed in the top-23 golfers individually.

Having the first and second medalists was not something Anderson had expected.
