It was a game of momentum swings Friday night, Oct. 26, and unfortunately for Zionsville the momentum did not last for long.
Zionsville lost its sectional matchup to Pike 24-23 in a game that will be known for missed opportunities for the Eagles.
Pike quarterback Brent Lyles fumbled the first snap of the game at the Zionsville 28 yard line.
Zionsville was only able to convert that turnover into three points on a 22-yard Jack Grider field goal.
“We didn’t capitalize on too many of the turnovers,” Zionsville Coach Larry McWhorter said. “That was a decisive part of the game. We could have had a bigger lead, maybe played a little looser and have a better second half.”
Two possessions later, Zionsville linebacker Scott Penola recovered another Pike fumble, but quarterback Parker Dunshee threw an interception three plays later to Pike’s Robert Williams.
