---- — The Zionsville tennis team opened up the 2014 season Thursday, April 10, defeating University 5-0. "This was a tremendous way to start our season," Zionsville head coach Matt Moore said. "I felt that all of our players handled challenging wind conditions and some unpredictability from their opponents beautifully. Our doubles teams worked on their chemistry by trying different formations and really focusing on shot placement. Our singles players did a great job controlling both pace and positioning of the ball. Overall, a successful display of the hard work all of our players put in the first couple weeks of the season." At No. 1 singles, Candice Park defeated Lauren Ciulla 4-6, 6-4, 10-2. At No. 2 singles, Silvie Miarakova defeated Melissa Kraft 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 3 singles Natasha Wujek defeated Mahitha Kunamneni 6-0, 6-0. "Candice Park battled a tough opponent," Moore said. "What I loved most about this win was her ability to scrap and stay focused when she hit some rough patches. This type of drive is what we expect to see in all of our players." In doubles play, Erin Cordill and Lillie Heigl defeated Maddie Hoover and Monica Chavan 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot and Emily Hainer and Sophia Metzger topped Audrey Geipel and Megan Roeschlein 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
