An early-afternoon rain left The Conrad Hotel Field at Hickory Hall Polo Club sodden Saturday, July 12, but it did nothing to dampen the spirits of those involved in the Boone County Polo Charity.
The 11th annual event was slated to begin at 1 p.m., but the rain set in before the match began, postponing it about two hours. Though the inclement weather kept some people away, a diehard crowd showed up and stuck it out.
"People I talked to had a delightful day," said Anita Bowen, of Boone County Senior Services.
She said though the rain system took its time passing through, once it passed, the weather was nice the rest of the day.
The event benefited BCSSI, which provides life sustaining and enriching services for older adults in Boone County, and Witham Health Services Foundation, which supports hospital projects in the county. In addition to the polo match, there was a silent auction.
