Tiller, Wood highlight junior golf week
Zionsville seniors to be Clark Tiller and Adam Wood highlight last week’s results (July 9-15).
Tiller won the Indiana Section Jr. PGA Championship played at Honeywell Golf Course in Wabash on July 12.
Tiller shot a 1-under 141 (71-70) to tie for the top spot with Colin Proctor and Mike Lee. Tiller then won on the second playoff hole to win the tournament.
With the win, Tiller qualifies for the National Junior PGA Championship July 30-Aug. 2 at Trump National Golf Club in Washington D.C.
Andrew Wood placed in a tie for fifth in the tournament with a 2-over 144. Placing in a tie for 21st was Andrew Derringer, who shot an 8-over 150.
Clark Mattison (77), Jack Knue (78), Clay Hypes (80), John Janak (87) and Sam Knecht (101) all played in the tournament and missed the cut after the first round.
Adam Wood placed second in the American Junior Golf Association Tournament of Champions, placed in Lancaster, Penn July 8-12.
Wood, ranked sixth overall in the Polo Junior Rankings and second in his class, started his tournament off with a 1-under 69 to be in a tie for seventh after the opening round.
Wood matched that score in round two, moving up to fourth place overall. In round three, Wood shot an even par 70 and stood in eighth place, four shots back overall.
Wood saved his best for last in the tournament. He shot a 5-under 65 for his round, and birdied 15 and 16 to get a tie for the lead at 7-under par.
Wood settled for second when Benjamin Griffin of Chapel Hill, N.C. birdied the 17th and parred the 18th.
Wood is in action this week at the Wyndham Cup, played in Rancho Santa Fe, N.M. Wood will represent the East. Play begins July 16.
