Wood gets off to strong start at
U.S. Jr. Amateur
Zionsville senior-to-be Adam Wood got off to a strong start at the U.S. Junior Amateur Monday, July 22.
Featuring the best junior golfers in the United States, Wood was ninth after the first round at Martis Camp Club in Truckee, Calif., shooting a two-under 70. He was just three shots off the lead.
Starting on the back nine, Wood opened with a par before bogeying his second hole. After back-to-back pars on 12 and 13, Wood got into a groove, making three straight birdies on 14-15-16 and adding another on 18 to get to three under at the turn.
Wood started the front nine with three pars before a birdie on the par-five fourth to move to four under. He bogeyed the sixth and ninth coming in to finish at two under.
After two rounds of stroke play, the top 64 players will be seeded into a bracket for match play. The championship match will be held July 27. See next week’s Times Sentinel for full results.
