Battle Ground —
The Zionsville boys golf team knew they were going to have to play one of their better rounds of the season Friday, June 7, at the Lafayette Jefferson Regional to qualify for the state finals.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, they fell just a few shots short. Zionsville shot a team score of 304, just two shots out of a third-place tie Friday at Battle Ground Golf Course.
“For 13-14 holes, we played really well,” Zionsville head coach Steve Simmons said. “I thought we were in control of the tournament at that point. We had fought back from a tough start and were right where we wanted to be. Then the fifth hole, which was our 14th hole, we just made a mess out of an easy par-4 for no reason. That was the difference. That was the difference between winning the tournament, and not going. We made a couple of doubles on the par-5s, which we didn’t really need to make, but overall that’s what happened.”
