The Zionsville boys lacrosse team accomplished another goal Saturday, May 18 — advancing to the state semifinals.
The Eagles topped Brebeuf Jesuit 9-3 to advance to the Final Four, where they will face Carmel Friday, May 24, in Zionsville.
“It feels good; we are glad to be moving on,” Zionsville senior Luke Beebe said. “It is good to get the first one under the belt, and now we can get ready for next week.”
Zionsville head coach Matt Garvey said despite the fact the Eagles topped the Braves in the regular season, he knew the game was going to be tough.
“These quarterfinals are always tough because you have a week off in between games,” he said. “Now we have another week off. We are going to dial it down a little bit. We don’t want to run them into the ground. They are in shape and we really need to be improving the little things.”
The game was tied at two at the half and stayed that way until midway through the third quarter.
Zionsville scored three goals in two minutes to take a 5-2 lead.
“I have always said the first couple of goals in the second half will determine the game,” Garvey said. “We ran a lot of guys and wore them down. We had patience on the offensive end and defensively, and that paid off.”
