Noblesville — The Zionsville wrestling team faced arguably its toughest tournament to date Saturday, Jan. 12, when

they competed in the Hoosier Crossroads Meet at Noblesville.

With three ranked teams and 17 ranked wrestlers, it was good preparation for the sectional in two weeks.

The 19th-ranked Eagles placed third overall, just missing out on second place.

“I was a little disappointed we didn’t get second, we were pretty close,” Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. “But our conference tournament is one of the toughest in the state. I was happy our kids came in and battled, we had some pretty solid matches. We beat two teams we lost to earlier in Avon and Fishers, and we just missed out on beating Noblesville for second by 2.5 points. I would say this tournament is the toughest of the season and really gets us ready for the postseason.”

Zionsville put four wrestlers into the championship matches, but lost all four.

The four wrestlers they lost to had a combined two losses.

“Our kids wrestled some really good wrestlers,” Brennan said. “There were a lot of undefeated or oneloss kids, ranked kids all over the place, and a lot of those matches we were right there. I was happy, but you are never really happy to get second, you want first.”

Mitch Weber placed second at 113, Preston Mantel placed second at 120, Tyler Glenn placed second at 138 and Austin Brewer was second at 285.

Jacob Aven placed third at 220 and Joe Einterz placed third at 195.

Austin Graef was fourth at 145, Shayne Haverson (152) and Chris Mason (182) placed fifth, and Steven Wisnewski was sixth at 170.
