Records fall for track team at conference meets

The Zionsville track and field teams competed at their respective conference meets this past week.

On the girls placed seventh overall with 47.33 points on May 13.

The highlight for the girls was setting two school records.

Becca Uebele broke the school record in the 1,600-meter run, finishing with a time of 5:09.09, good enough for third place.

Later in the meet, Samantha Mitchell set the new standard in the 3,200-meter run. She finished in 11:09.65, also good for third.

The highest finish on the night belonged to Dariah Rice, who placed second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01.05.

Also ending up with a top-3 finish was Carlie Vannatta, who placed third in the discus with a throw of 113-feet-09-inches.

Emma Bleakman was fourth in the long jump with a jump of 16-feet-8-inches.

The Eagles also got individual scoring finishes from Marianna Kastberg-Leonard, who placed seventh in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:24.74 and from Emily Wilson, who placed ninth in the high jump with a jump of 4-feet-10-inches.

The Zionsville relay teams also had good finishes. The 1,600-meter relay team of Uebele, Cally Sampson, Kastberg-Leonard and Rice placed fifth in a time of 4:12.63.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Olivia Johnson, Jacki Ulmer, Cassidy Sampson and Nina O'Neil placed seventh in 10:36.52 and the 400-meter relay team of Courtney Courtney Gietl, Eleni Zarvos, Emma Bleakman and Caroline Horn placed ninth in 55.86.

The Lady Eagles will participate in the Plainfield Sectional on May 20.

On May 16, the boys team placed fifth overall with 80.5 points. Avon won the team title with 120.5 points.

The Eagles had an individual champion. CJ Anyaebunam won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.68.

Alex Sibila placed second in the high jump, clearing 6-feet-6-inches. Jake Manusky placed eighth in the event, clearing 5-feet-10-inches.
