Both Zionsville track and field teams will be represented at the State Finals this weekend in Bloomington.
On May 27, the girls team placed three events into the state meet. The girls state meet will be held on June 6 at IU.
Emma Bleakman had the top finish at the regional, placing third in the long jump with a jump of 16-feet-10.50-inches to earn an automatic bid to state. The top-3 places at the regional, plus anyone who hits the state standard qualify automatically for the state finals.
The rest of the field is then filled out based on time.
Also advancing automatically to state was Sydney Meyers, who placed fourth in the 800-meter run but hit the state standard with a time of 2:16.39.
The other event to make the state finals was the 3,200-meter relay.
The team of Becca Uebele, Marianna Kastberg-Leonard, Sydney Meyers and Samantha Mitchell placed fifth in the regional, but the quartet got a state callback with a time of 9:36.06.
"These ladies raced, jumped and threw their hearts out tonight and we are so proud of all that they have worked for and accomplished this season," Zionsville head coach Jackie Harder said in an email. "This is one tough regional to get out of and move onto state . Every leg of our relay did their part in racing hard to earn their state spot; I am really happy for these four ladies. Meyers was up near the front of her race the entire way, which she knew she needed to do to move on. The other top competitors helped push and pull Sydney to a PR and it was enough to run a state standard time. Emma Bleakman had a goal at the beginning of the year to make it to state, she knew at her third attempt of the finals round she had to lay it all out there and have no regrets. She jumped a few inches farther than her previous best jump which secured her spot for third and achieve her goal for this season."
