SLIDESHOW: Wood wins state title

Franklin — One year ago, Zionsville junior Adam Wood was on the sidelines during the second round of the IHSAA State Finals after missing the cut.

There was no holding him back this year. Wood fired his second-straight 68 Wednesday, June 12, finishing the two-day tournament at 8-under and winning the state title by 1-shot over Floyd Central’s Devin Jenkins.

“It is a total 180,” Wood, who just finished his junior year, said of the difference from a year ago. “I was confident coming in that I had the game to do it, it was just getting it done. I was lucky to play some of my better golf, and I am fortunate in that.”

Wood, who placed second as a freshman in the state finals, said it was one of his goals to win a state championship.

“It is a huge accomplishment,” he said. “It is a dream of every high school golfer to win the state championship as an individual and as a team. Unfortunately we didn’t get here as a team, and I would trade this for a team title in a heartbeat. Unfortunately we didn’t get here so I will take the next best option in winning the individual. I was able to play good enough golf to get that done. I knew it was going to be close, it always seems to come down to one shot. I played some quality balls and a few putts to go my way, and overall it is just a fantastic week. I have to thank my teammates, my coaches, the Zionsville community for supporting me, and it is just fantastic.”
