---- — Zionsville senior Jacob Aven accomplished a goal Tuesday, Nov. 19.

That is when Aven officially signed his national letter of intent to wrestle at Purdue University.

"It feels really good," Aven said. "It has been my goal for a while to sign with a D1 program, so I was excited about the whole process. It is good that it is over, but I am really excited about moving on to the next step."

Aven, who said he also looked at Central Michigan and Indiana University said he was familiar with Purdue and felt comfortable with their staff and other wrestlers.

"My older brother goes there now, so it is really cool to go to the same school with him," Aven said. "I really liked the coaching staff there, coach (Pete) Rogers and coach (Scott) Hinkel. I knew a lot of the kids there now and they really like the program so I thought it was a good place to go."

Aven said that another plus was that it was close to home so his parents, friends and former coaches could watch him compete in college.

"That is so nice," he said. "It is good to know that any Saturday, or weekday even, my parents or coaches can come up and watch me compete is really cool."
