---- — The Zionsville wrestling team didn't achieve their ultimate goal of winning the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Tournament, Saturday, January 18.

But they still had an strong showing, earning second-place team honors. Avon won the title with 197.5 points, while Zionsville and Westfield tied for second with 132.5 points.

"We are disappointed we weren't a little closer to first," Zionsville head coach Bob Brennan said. "But we were able to place second for the second year in a row and that is good in this conference. We wrestled pretty well on the day, had four guys finish above their seeds and had a champion."

With 17 ranked wrestlers and two ranked teams, the HCC is one of the top conferences in the state of Indiana.

Brennan said that a strong finish there will prepare the Eagles for the postseason.

"We got off to a good start to the day and had 11 kids make it to the placement round," Brennan said. "We picked up some nice wins on the day and it will help us with our sectional seeding because we faced potential sectional opponents or wrestlers who had beaten some of our sectional opponents. It was good preparation with how tough the conference is. Avon is tough, as our Westfield, HSE and Fishers and some of the others."

The Eagles wouldn't face Avon wrestlers until the state tournament, meaning that the Eagles tied or beat all the conference schools that will be in the sectional with them.
