---- — The Zionsville Lady Eagles basketball team fought until the very end against Hamilton Southeastern Saturday, Jan. 18.

But every time the Eagles got close, the Royals had the answer and ultimately won 44-35.

"We just couldn't get over the hump," Zionsville head coach Andy Maguire said. "I know at one point we had it down to 39-35 and had a really good look at the basket and I thought we were going to score to get within two, but we just couldn't get over that hump. Overall, I was pretty pleased. Our defense was pretty solid, our block outs were really good until two block outs in the last 30 seconds and I was pleased with our effort."

The Eagles fell down by as many as 11 in the first half and trailed by 10 at the half.

Zionsville got within 33-29 on two free throws by Kirsten Castelli with 4:36 left in the third quarter, but the Royals built the lead back to eight by the end of the quarter.

The Royals led by nine with 5:55 left in the game, but both teams went into a dry spell and the Eagles slowly clawed their way to within 39-35 with a basket by Olivia Kimbrew and a 3-pointer by Grace Maguire with 2:10 left in the game.

The Eagles got a stop on the next possession, and got a good look inside for Laurie King, but her shot was partial blocked with 1:15 remaining.
