Neither the Lebanon nor Zionsville tennis teams were going to pack it in easily in their sectional title match Friday evening, Oct. 4, in Lebanon.
But in a match that lasted more than 3 1/2 hours, Zionsville managed a 3-2 win to win the sectional title over Lebanon.
“We waited for this all year,” Zionsville head coach Matt Moore said. “And I’m sure Lebanon would say the same exact things. We knew this was a tough place to play. I don’t know what it is about Lebanon that brings tennis fans out to the stands, but they manage to do it, and they are loud, and encouraging and supportive. Our guys knew coming in it would take mental poise and mental toughness, and I couldn’t be more proud of a group of guys for the way they represented themselves.”
For Lebanon, it was a tough way to end the season.
But Lebanon head coach Brad Mustin was extremely proud of the effort of his team.
“Zionsville is a tough team this year,” Mustin said. “Our boys came out and competed in every position. That is all you can ask for.”
Zionsville jumped out to a 2-0 lead with straight-set victories at the two doubles spots.
