Zionsville — Both the boys and girls track teams had strong showings at the Zionsville Invitational Friday, April 26.

The girls team placed second with a team score of 104, just five points behind champion Brownsburg.

“We could not be more pleased with the performances of our entire team,” Zionsville head coach Jackie Harder said in an email. “The girls ran out of their minds tonight. This is exactly what we needed at this point in the season — some good competition with good weather to see the payoffs of how hard these ladies have been working.”

The highlight of the day came in the 1,600-meter run, when Becca Uebele won the event in a time of 5:13.08. The time was a new Zionsville school record, which was previously held by Cally Sampson (5:15.67).

“Becca did an amazing job of executing the race with no one pushing her,” Harder said. “There is a good chance we will see that record continue to fall when Becca has some competition pushing her pace.”

Uebele also placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.83.

The Eagles had two other wins on the day, with Emma Bleakman winning the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 2-1/2 inches.

Also winning was the 1,600-meter relay team of Megan Broecker, Kristen Duffey, Dariah Rice and Suzie Hoops. The quartet ran a season-best time of 4:10.16.
