Boys XC ends season at state

Terre Haute — The Zionsville boys cross country team gave it everything they had Saturday, Nov. 2, in the IHSAA State Championships at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute.

The Eagles’ efforts helped them place 16th overall in the team standings with a team score of 382.

“When we finished the race, I think the kids were spent, and that is always a good sign,” Porras said. “Sometimes that means you performed well and other times it doesn’t work out, but I think everyone gave everything they had today. We have had a great season, and I am really proud of how they did today.”

Porras said he thought Saturday was another example of how much cross country has grown in the recent years in the state of Indiana.

Just three years ago, the Eagles times would have put them in 13th overall and within striking distance of a top-10 finish.

“Indiana cross country across the state has been on a raise probably the past 10 years,” Porras said. “It just continues to get better and better. We have athletes doing better on the national scene, and that trickle down has been incredible. You have to be very good and competitive just to get to this race and then place well at the state finals.”

Oliver Rigg was the top finisher for the Eagles, placing 55th in a time of 16:26.5.

Adam Corya placed 90th in a time of 16:47.5. Ryan Cash and Logan Winters placed 121st and 123rd in times of 17:00.4 and 17:00.9.

The final scoring runner was Andrew Brake, who placed 144th in a time of 17:14.9.

The final two Eagles in the top-7 were Patrick Stuff (154th, 17:20.5) and Kyle Munz (169th, 17:33.1).

“Our two seniors, Adam Corya and Andrew Brake closed out their cross country careers really well with great races,” Porras said. “Oliver Rigg had a really good race being our top runner. Logan Winters has just had a great postseason, and he topped it off with a really good race.”
