Porras said he was happy Brake and Corya had strong races in their final time representing Zionsville in cross country.
“They have been the heart of the team this year,” Porras said. “They established things very well. They have been hard workers all four years and to see them finish it off with great performances is nice to see. I think they are both are pleased with the efforts they had.”
As for the other runners, the Eagles will have an excellent chance to duplicate this year’s success, returning five of the seven regulars in the top-7.
“It will be up to them on how they move forward in the off-season,” Porras said. “They are pretty highly motivated athletes so I anticipate they are going to be pretty focused and ready to perform at a high level the next chance they get.”
Porras had fond things to say about this year’s squad, which won the sectional and the regional (the first in school history).
“I think the main thing is how hard work gets rewarded,” Porras said when asked about what he would take away from this year. “These guys got in a lot of miles, I think as a team we were right at 10,000 miles for the summer. They set the standard from that standpoint. Also, the camaraderie on this team was as good as any coach we have had.”
