Zionsville seniors Jacob Aven and Christian Warner both placed third on Feb. 15 at the New Castle Semi-State, earning them berths in the state finals at Banker's Life Fieldhouse on Feb. 21-22.

Fishers, who doubled up Zionsville 64-32 during a regular season meeting in December, performed even better the second time around.

  • SPT - ZT021914 - Boys basketball photo Eagles hold off Tigers' surge For three quarters, the Zionsville Eagles boys basketball team appeared like they were going to cruise to a victory against county rival Lebanon on Thursday, Feb. 13. But the Tigers made them work for it in the fourth quarter. Lebanon cut a 17-point deficit down to 3, but the Eagles ultimately held on for a 42-34 win.

The Eagles won their ninth-straight sectional title, scoring 559 points, 257 more points than second-place Harrison.

Six of the girls — Madilyn Mann (St. Louis), Katherine Ratz (Illinois), Catherine Schmidt (IUPUI), Abby Shroyer (Hanover), Hannah Timbrook (Marian), and Caroline Wagner (DePauw) — were present at the ceremony, while the seventh, Katy Keen graduated high school in December and is already attending Penn State.

Wednesday, Jan. 22, night was another example of that, as the Eagles saw a four-point halftime lead disappear with a bad third quarter, and Brownsburg topped the Eagles 64-50.
