Reserve booth space for market
The Zionsville Farmers’ Market will have a pre-season meeting for vendors at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, at the SullivanMunce Cultural Center, 202-225 W. Hawthorne St. Anyone interested in being a vendor is encouraged to attend. Committee members will answer questions and reserve booth space for the 2008 season.

Zion Nature Center
offers activities
The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., has several classes and events this month. Call the nature center at 873-8950 or visit www.zionnaturecenter.org for more information or to register for classes.
• Watercolor Class — 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 6, and Thursday, March 20. Adults. Art teacher Laurie Miller will take participants through a step-by-step process of using watercolor techniques to paint a nature close-up. Learn how to paint an owl at the March 6 lesson. Participants will choose a creature at the Zion Nature Center as a subject to paint during the March 20 lesson (lesson one is a pre-requisite). Free. Students must provide all art materials and may contact Laurie at Laurieartstudio@aol.com or 769-6750 to register and get a supply list.
• Great Blue Herons — 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9. All ages. Come for a program on the great blue heron, which is native to Indiana. Find out what herons eat, where they live, and much more. Free.
• Here Comes Easter Cotton Tail — 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16. All ages. Hop over to the Zion Nature Center and learn some fun facts about bunnies. Dress up like a bunny, too. Free with optional crafts.
• Closed for Easter — The center will be closed for Easter Sunday, March 23.
Woman’s Club announces meeting
The Zionsville Woman’s Club will meet at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Jan Stacy’s home. Tracy Phillips will co-host with Roberta Parks giving the program.
Order candy eggs
Psi Iota Xi is taking orders for homemade milk chocolate candy eggs. Each egg is filled with 4 ounces of a choice of peanut butter, maple cream or butter cream, according to order, and covered with milk chocolate, wrapped and decorated with a candy flower. Cost is $2.50 each.
Orders are due by March 7 and can be placed by calling Becky LaFlamme at 985-0330 or e-mailing rrlawren@iupui.edu. Orders will be available by March 15.
Psi Iota Xi supports the arts and music in the community and in the Zionsville Community Schools.
Library features
programs
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has several upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.
• Craft: “Ukrainian Pysanky Egg Decoration” — 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 8. Folk artist Carol Powers will teach a workshop on the traditional art of Ukrainian Pysanky egg decoration. A kit with all the supplies needed for the class will be provided to each participant. Registration required.
• Chinese Arts — 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, for families with children ages 5 to 12. The whole family will enjoy learning beginning movements in martial arts and dance. Gonfu Grandma will demonstrate her skills in martial fan, martial sword and Tai Chi. Registration is required.
• Booktalk: “Life with Doris Day” — 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 11. Mary Anne Barothy of Zionsville was movie star Doris Day’s personal assistant for many years. Join her for a fun reminiscence and discussion of her book, “Life with Doris Day.” Book sales and signing will follow the program.
• Library Hours — The library will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 13, for the annual staff recognition banquet and reopen at 9:30 a.m. the next day.
• Leprechaun and Fairy Tea — 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, March 14. Ages 3 to 6. Enter a room filled with imagination. Girls come dressed in wings and a ballet suit. Boys may dress as a leprechaun or elf. The children will hear fairy and leprechaun stories and have tea with the Queen of Fairy Land. Contact the library to advise of food allergies. Registration is required.
• College Session — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will host a distance education information session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the library. Learn how to go to college without going to class. For more information contact the college at 1-800-499-0373 or e-mail wedadms@smwc.edu.
Family holds reception honoring Bill Arnold
Bill Arnold’s family is hosting an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in the Zionsville Middle School wrestling room, to honor Arnold’s contributions to the ZMS wrestling family. He was head coach from 1981 to 1990, assistant coach in 1992 and is a volunteer coach. Call Sally Plummer at 873-1604 for information or to contribute a picture or a short letter for a scrapbook.
Z’Friends to meet
Z’Friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at the home of Carol Gobeyns, 8715 Heatherstone Place in Cobblestone subdivision. Newcomers welcome. R.S.V.P. to Jo at 769-3766 by March 17.
Sheriffs’ Association announces scholarships
The Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will give approximately 40 $500 scholarships to qualified high school seniors and college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice. To qualify, an applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member, be a high school senior or attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student.
Applications are due by April 1 and are available at the Boone County Sheriff’s office, from a high school counselor, or by writing to the ISA at Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, P.O. Box 19127, Indianapolis, IN, 46219.
Welcome spring with Gardenfest
Gardenfest, hosted by the Boone County Master Gardeners, will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 1300 E. County Road 100 South, Lebanon. Free trees will be given to attendees from the Indiana Soil and Water Conservation’s “Plant a Million Trees” project.
