Library features

programs

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has several upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.

• Library Hours — The library will close at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 13, for the annual staff recognition banquet and reopen at 9:30 a.m. the next day.

• Leprechaun and Fairy Tea — 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, March 14. Ages 3 to 6. Enter a room filled with imagination. Girls come dressed in wings and a ballet suit. Boys may dress as a leprechaun or elf. The children will hear fairy and leprechaun stories and have tea with the Queen of Fairy Land. Contact the library to advise of food allergies. Registration is required.

• College Session — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will host a distance education information session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at the library. Learn how to go to college without going to class. For more information contact the college at (800) 499-0373 or e-mail wedadms@smwc.edu.

• Animal Adventure Series: Snakes — 1 p.m. Friday, March 12. Ages 3 to 6. Meet at the library for storytime fun, then walk to the nature center to learn about real animals that live there. Registration is required.

• Create a Plate — Draw on special paper to be transformed into a melamine plate during all library hours from March 17 to 23. All ages. Cost is $6.50 per plate; finished plates can be picked up in six-to-eight weeks.



Z’BOP hosts

magic show

In the tradition of Harry Houdini, Cris Angel and David Copperfield, Ridgeway and Johnson will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, March 14, at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center, 1000 Mulberry St. Sponsored by the Zionsville Band and Orchestra Patrons, the international touring duo will perform grand illusion and escape art, including the world’s only full-view water torture cell.

After the duo’s daring feats, join the after party, “Koffee with a Kick,” in the ZCHS cafeteria. The party will feature musical performances by members of the ZCHS band, orchestra students and ZCHS staff. Coffee, desserts, beverages and snacks will be served. Proceeds will benefit ZCHS instrumental music programs.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door and can be purchased at Boone Village Marsh and Old National Bank, 385 S. Main St. Tickets can also be purchased by calling 733-0229.

Homemakers teach heritage skills

The Boone County Extension Homemakers will host Heritage Skills: Past to Present, an educational event, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds Community Building. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. More than 12 classes will be offered, including rug-hooking, quilting, needle felting, making homemade body lotion, decorating gourd bowls, card making, decorative machine stitching embellishments, sewing and basket making. Register by March 14; after that date contact Lori Merrill at ljmerrill@gmail.com to check availability.

Vendor booths will be open with demonstrations and make-it-take-it offerings all day. Door prizes will also be given out throughout the day. Registration forms are at all Boone County libraries and the Boone County Extension office. Register online at www.bccn.boone.in.us/ces/cfs.



Zion Nature Center

offers activities

The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., has several classes and events this month. Call the nature center at 873-8950 or visit www.zionnaturecenter.org for more information or to register for classes.

• Here Comes Easter Cotton Tail — 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16. All ages. Hop over to the Zion Nature Center and learn some fun facts about bunnies. Dress up like a bunny, too. Free with optional crafts.

• Closed for Easter — The center will be closed for Easter Sunday, March 23.



Village Garden Club seeks grant

applications

The Village Garden Club of Zionsville is seeking grant applications for beautification projects. Individuals or groups may apply for a grant. They are awarded according to the project and need. Contact Ruth Eskilson at 733-8774 for more information.



Small Blessing

presents health fair

Small Blessings, 5909 Technology Center Drive, will host its Children’s Heath & Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15. The event is free and features community health and safety providers. Free child ID cards with photo/fingerprint, health screenings and car seat safety demonstrations will be available. Workshops on challenging behaviors, brain development and school readiness will also be presented. Free child care is available.

Family hosts reception honoring Arnold

Bill Arnold’s family is hosting an open house from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in the Zionsville Middle School wrestling room, to honor Arnold’s contributions to the ZMS wrestling family. He was head coach from 1981 to 1990, assistant coach in 1992, and is a volunteer coach.

Have a cup of joe with Welcome Wagon

The Welcome Wagon Newcomers Club of Zionsville will meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, March 17, at at the home of Mary Moeller in the Oakridge subdivision. Local women are invited to attend. The Welcome Wagon is a club for newcomers in the Zionsville area and local women interested in meeting new people and making new friends.

Z’Friends to meet

Z’Friends will meet for lunch at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 20, at the home of Carol Gobeyns, 8715 Heatherstone Place in Cobblestone subdivision. Newcomers welcome. R.S.V.P. to Jo at 769-3766 by March 17.



Shepherds to meet

The Zionsville Shepherds will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Fellowship Hall of the Zionsville Christian Church, 120 N. Ninth St.

Lunch will be served at noon, followed by guest speaker Tim Haak, assistant vice-president, Fifth-Third Bank, who will speak on today’s changing banking environment. The event is open to all persons ages 55 and above.

library to meet

The Friends of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the library’s Lora Hussey room. The meeting is open to the public. Call Maria Wopshall at 873-2041 for more information.



Lions Club egg hunt

The Zionsville Lions Club and Zionsville Times Sentinel will host an EGGnormous Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 22, in Lions Park. Free breakfast will be served at 9 a.m. and Mik the Music Man will perform at 9:30 a.m. Following the egg hunt (by age groups) an airplane will drop ping pong balls that can be redeemed for prizes at local merchants.



The deadline for Community Calendar announcements is 5 p.m. Fridays for the following week’s publication. Boone County-related announcements will run at least once, and may run additional times, if space provides. If a specific date for the announcement to run is preferred, it should be noted with the announcement at the time of submission.
