Library collects
for storm victims
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will collect items for Indiana flood and tornado victims in a number of counties, including Boone, until July 31. All items will be donated to Gleaner’s Food Bank of Indiana for distribution. The library will cancel up to $2 in notice and unhold fees for each item an individual donates. Items must be unopened and no glass will be accepted. At this time, food items most in need are: cereal bars, juice, pop-top fruit/veggies/pasta foods; power bars, power drinks and water. Non-food items in need include: bleach, buckets, cleaners such as Lysol or Scrubbing Bubbles, diapers, baby bottles, baby formula, trash bags, hand sanitizer, mops, masks, paper towels, toilet paper, rubber gloves and sponges.
Library announces programs
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has a number of upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.
• Animal Adventure Series: Creeping, Crawling Insects — 1 p.m. Thursday, June 26, ages 3 to 6 with parents. Meet at the library for storytime fun and then walk to the Nature Center to learn about the real animals. Registration is required.
• Sci Fi Movie Mondays — 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday, June 30, Lora Hussey Room. “Conquest of Space” (1955). Early color extravaganza about a trip to Mars. Special effects by George Pal. Discussion of the special effects and “Hollywood” science by film historian/preservationist Eric Grayson follows film showing.
• Crafty Critters: Hairy Head — 1 p.m. Monday, June 30, ages 8 to 12. Plant a baby head and watch it grow at home, give it a haircut, too. Registration is required,
• Teen Movie Matinee: The Spiderwick Chronicles — 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, Lora Hussey Room. Movie rated PG, popcorn provided.
• Paws to Read — 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, for ages 6 to 10. Share a book with a furry four-legged friend from Therapets of Indiana. Registration is required.
• Fourth of July Patriotic Parade — 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 for ages 3 to 6. Celebrate America’s birthday by creating some fabulous crafts to show off in our patriotic parade. Registration is required.
Zion Nature Center
offers activities
The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., will have several classes and events this month. Regular hours are Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Each Wednesday is Wild Wednesday and hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.

• Bat World — 2 p.m., Sunday, June 29. All ages. Come for this educational bat program. Learn about various local species of bats, their environmental importance, and what to do if a sick or injured bat is found. Meet Luna, the center’s big brown bat. Free.
• Wild Wednesdays — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. All ages. Come for games, hikes, animal talks, crafts and more. Programs start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. each day. Dress for a mess.
Farmers’ Market
this Saturday
The newly expanded Zionsville Farmers’ Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the corner of Main and Hawthorne streets. Live music by Chad Mills will be featured.
Volunteers needed
for Community Day
Individuals, families, 4-H clubs, businesses and service groups are asked to volunteer for clean-up and landscaping work on Community Day at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 28. Those interested should call (765) 482-0750 so they can be assigned work areas. Boone County Extension Homemakers will provide refreshments and master gardeners will be on-hand to coordinate the landscape installation.
Zionsville Alumni seek sponsors
The Zionsville Alumni Association needs additional alumni and business sponsors for its All Class Reunion Saturday, July 26, at the Palomino Ballroom. Sponsorships are $100 and up, and sponsors will be listed in the program booklet. Donations of any amount are welcome.
The group is seeking enough antique and classic cars to encircle the Palomino building the night of the event. Admission to the reunion is free to all paid ZAA members and $15 to non-members. Those age 21 and up may attend.

Lions call for Fall Festival vendors
The 55th Annual Zionsville Lions Club Fall Festival, Sept. 5, 6 and 7, will feature a parade, carnival, food court, entertainment, arts and crafts, kids’ corner, pet pavilion and more. The deadline for Community Calendar announcements is 5 p.m. Fridays for the following week’s publication. Boone County-related announcements will run at least once, and may run additional times, if space provides. If a specific date for the announcement to run is preferred, it should be noted with the announcement at the time of submission.
