Zion Nature Center
offers activities
The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., will have several classes and events this month. Call the nature center at 873-8950 or visit www.zionnaturecenter.org for more information or to register for classes.
• Stroller/Wheelchair Hikes — 11 a.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 10, 17 and 21. All ages. Come for a guided stroller/wheelchair hike through Creekside Nature Park. Enjoy exploring the wonders of nature along Eagle Creek. This scenic trail is a paved loop and is handicap accessible. Creekside Park is located in Zionsville just south of State Road 334 and Elm Street. Free.
• Beyond Culinary Herbs — 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. Adults. A program on herbal plants native to the North American continent. Myrene Brown will discuss plants with uses beyond food for Native Americans and early American settlers. Learn about plants used as medicine, for flavoring, in ceremonies, for crafts and in dyeing. Free.
• Monarch Mania — 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21. All ages. It is peak migration time for monarch butterflies throughout Indiana. Come learn some fun facts about these amazing insects and have hands-on fun creating butterfly crafts to take home. Free.
• Chattering Chipmunks — 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 27 and 28. All ages. Chipmunks are vocal and can be heard chattering as they gather food. Come uncover interesting facts about these “chatterboxes.” Free.
Library announces
programs
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has a number of upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.
• Fall Fun — 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12 for ages 3 to 6. Create a fun fall craft at the library. Registration is required.
• Fall I Storytime — The Fall I session of storytime runs Sept. 15 through Oct. 17 for ages birth through 6. A library card is required during the first week of registration and is then open to non-cardholders wishing to participate. Registration is required.
• Dino Days — 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, ages 3 to 6. Have dino-mighty fun learning about dinosaurs. Registration is required.
• Stitch’n at the Library — 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, for ages 8 to12. New and experienced knitters and crocheters, bring your own yarn and needles for some stitching fun. Registration is required.
• Animal Adventure Series: Squirrels and Chipmunks — 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, ages 3 to 6 with a parent. Meet at the library for storytime fun then walk to the Nature Center to meet and learn about the real animals who live there. Registration is required.
IU alumni to meet
The Indiana University Alumni Association of Boone County will meet for a social gathering at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at DC’s Pub, 6537 State Road 334, in the Anson development. Call Liz Drury at 517-1453 for more information.
Farmers’ Market apple pie contest
The Zionsville Farmers’ Market will have an apple pie contest Saturday, Sept. 13. Pies must be turned in by 8:30 a.m. and judged at 9 a.m. Participants can still enter the contest. Market hours are 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Call Debbi at 733-1777 with any questions.
Friends of library
to meet
The Friends of the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the library’s Lora Hussey program room. The meeting is open to the public. Call Maria Wopshall at 873-2041 for more information.
Market Day returns
Market Day is back from summer break with a special September promotion. Those ordering any three items from the featured products will receive a free photo tote bag, a $19.99 value. Market Day flyers can be found at all Zionsville schools and the Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, or may be accessed at www.marketday.com. Order forms are due Tuesday, Sept. 16; online orders may be placed until noon Wednesday, Sept. 17. Z’Friends to meet
Z’Friends will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at the Pancake House, 86th Street and Ditch Road, Indianapolis. Call Jane White at 873-1970 to attend; all are welcome.
Z’Friends began Oct. 31, 2001, with a group of 17 friends meeting for lunch at Cobblestone Grill in Zionsville. There are no officers, committees or dues. The group has hosted breakfasts, brunches, lunches and afternoon teas.
Cemetery Association slates annual meeting

Schultz to perform
at Eagle Church
Contemporary Christian recording artist Mark Schultz will perform at Bethany Christian Services for its 25th anniversary celebration and fundraiser at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Eagle Church Center, 5801 County Road 650 East, Whitestown. Singer Schultz, a Dove Award winner, will help Bethany commemorate a quarter century serving children and families throughout the State of Indiana. Order tickets online at www.bethany.org/indiana. Homemakers plan holiday bazaar
The Boone County Extension Homemakers is looking for crafters to be part of its Holiday Bazaar Saturday, Nov. 22, at the new Witham Health Services Pavilion at the Boone County 4-H Fairgrounds, Exit 138 on Interstate 65. There will be a variety of unique gifts, crafts and decorative items for sale. Library needs
volunteers
The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library needs volunteers to help with shelving materials, assisting with special projects, making phone calls, and photocopying and delivering materials to the homebound through the “Books to Go” program.
Area residents are invited to join the library’s dedicated Volunteer Corps. New adult volunteers can make a difference in the service the library offers the Zionsville community. Call Laura Lambert, volunteer coordinator, at 873-3149, ext. 11654 for more information.
Basketball program at Eagle Church
Upward Basketball, a youth basketball league for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, is open for registration. The program seeks to help kids have fun learning basketball while helping them grow spiritually. Game days are Saturdays beginning Jan. 19 and running for eight weeks. Those interested may register at www.eaglechurch.com. Cost is $99 per child if registered by Oct. 1. Call 769-0700 for more information.
