Programs at Zion Nature Center upcoming

The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., will have several classes and events this month. Call the Nature Center at 873-8950 or visit www.zionnaturecenter.org for more information or to register for classes.

• New Exhibit: Mammals on the Move — through February. Get a close-up view of the collection of taxidermy mammals, mammal puppets and toys in this interactive, fun and educational exhibit for even the little ones. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Zionsville.

• Create Feature: ‘Indiana Jim’s Reptile Experience’ — 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24. All ages. Join Indiana Jim and many reptiles and amphibians for an interactive and educational experience. With more than 20 years of experience in the field of herpetology, Jim’s lively program will appeal to people of all ages. The program is free; the Kiwanis Club of Zionsville is the sponsor.

• Turtles: A Long Winter’s Nap — 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25. All ages. Come learn some interesting facts about hibernation and box turtles. Meet some of these sleepy reptiles as we check on them during hibernation. Free. Optional turtle crafts.

• Groundhogs — 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31. All ages. Take a fascinating look into the world of groundhogs. Folklore and facts will be revealed during this interactive presentation. Free.



SullivanMunce offers acrylic class

The SullivanMunce Cultural Center, 225 W. Hawthorne St., offers Acrylic Painting — 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays now to Feb. 25. Students will learn the basics of acrylics or expand their current knowledge. Experiment with the many techniques possible with this versatile paint medium. John P. Hanks instructs. Cost: $270/$295 (members/non-members). Supplies are additional.



Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library events

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has several upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.

• Heritage Scrapbooking Your Family History — 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, Lora Hussey Room. Instructor Lisa Sipes will demonstrate archival techniques that will help participants create a family photo and memento scrapbook. Each participant will be provided with supplies and decorations to create one heritage scrapbooking page with memorabilia brought from home.
